The Great Ridge - Peak District Walk

Sunday 3rd August 2008

This was John's choice of walk and as it's one of his favourite routes I shouldn't have been surprised he picked it when I asked him if there was anywhere he wanted to go. As usual the summit of Mam Tor was busy but the rest of the route was fairly quiet considering it was a Sunday during the school holidays.

Start: Castleton car park (SK 1494 8301)

Route: Castleton car park - Lose Hill - Hollins Cross - Mam Tor (TP) - Limestone Way - Cave Dale - Castleton car park

Distance: 8.25 miles     Ascent: 539 metres      Time Taken: 4 hours 30 mins

Terrain: Easy paths

Weather: A few showers to start but brightening up during the walk.

Pub Visited: The Castle, Castleton    Ale Drunk: Black Sheep Bitter
